As everyone knows, the most important optical parameter of grow lights is PPFD. It represents how much optical energy the plant receives, and then converts the light energy captured by photosynthesis into carbohydrates. So how to make plants receive the most of the light energy emitted by grow lights becomes particularly important, but this is precisely the lighting of all plants on the market. What has been overlooked in all cases.
No fundamental solution to this problem is to blindly increase the power or increase the light efficiency of grow lights, or to solve this problem by reducing the angle. But today, we have to say here that these are not the best lighting solutions, we need do it better.

In grow tent, we used the scientific research level optical radiation standard test instrument of Li-Cor company of America to carry out practical tests. The data showed that the distance from the plant to the grow light’s luminous surface is inversely proportional to the size of PPFD, the farther away the distance is, the smaller the PPFD is, and the higher the loss rate of light energy in the space. If the distance between the plant and the lamp reaches 24 “, the PPFD maintenance rate is reduced to about 50% which means that about 50% of the light energy is lost in the space species. In other words, the utilization rate of the grow light is only half. If the distance is longer, the utilization rate of the lamp is lower. It should be noted that if there is no reflective film in the surrounding environment of plant factories and greenhouses, PPFD will decline faster and the utilization rate will be lower.
The attenuation data of PPFD in space is amazing. It is a problem faced by the industry. Such a plant lighting scheme will bring serious energy waste, increase the cost in commercial cultivation, and reduce the profit and return rate. From the point of view of energy saving, this problem is urgent to be solved.
